SMEDS Application Error Discussion in 'Civ2 - Technical Support' started by Cedric Greene, Jun 18, 2002. Cedric Greene Chieftain Joined: Jan 30, 2001 Messages: 751 Location: CT While trying to fix another problem I seemed to have stumbled onto the fixes for the following problem: "SMEDS Application Error Error: ERR_RESOURCENOTFOUND File: D:\Ss\Smeds32\Port.cpp Line: 1012 Stack trace not yet available in WIN 32". I have found THREE solutions to this problem: 1) Do a full install of Civ2 2.42, not just necessary game files before applying the patch. B) Use a Civ2 disk other than the "Classic" one, whether it be the CiC, FW or ToT one. It seems to only affect the Civ 2 classic disk, and possibly only the jewel case Hasbro Interactive one at that. 3) Install the no-cd crack, though I haven't tested this it should solve the problem. AOL hath been canceled However it means I need to get off my behind and finalize the patches and add them to my new site Cedric Greene, Jun 18, 2002 #1 starlifter Chieftain Joined: Jun 17, 2001 Messages: 4,212 Bump (in particular for Zarathustra465) Good Civ II stuff is here ..... starlifter, Aug 12, 2002 #2 wlfdncer Chieftain

It occurs when I start diplomatic action, try talking to other Civs... then the diplomacy screen is not loaded and I get all the dialogue options as windows right there on the map without http://forums.civfanatics.com/archive/index.php/t-25210.html the diplomacy background... what might be the reason for this? Any ideas for a cure? And before someone asks - I have diplomatic screen enabled. I had something similar and it transpired the system was about to crash - i seemed to have four instances of Outlook running simultaneously - check what else you have running at the time - probably too much - remember Civ is a DOS program in a rather inadequate 32 bit wrapper - it gobbles resources even more than GateSh*t!!! __________________ "Our words are backed by empty wine bottles! - SG(2) "One of our Scouse Gits is missing." - -Jrabbit Scouse Gits View Public Profile Visit Scouse Gits's homepage! A: The latest patch is now available for download. If you're having problems and you haven't downloaded the latest patch yet, DO IT! The patch can be found on our FTP site (ftp.microprose.com under "new versions"), our smeds application Web site (www.microprose.com under CivII "latest"), CompuServe, America Online or our BBS (510-522-8909). Q: How do I tell which version of Civilization II I am playing? A: Go to the Game Options menu (Ctrl-O); the window title says which version you are playing. Q: How do I install the patch for Civilization II? A: If smeds application error the file name ends in .ZIP, then you will need the shareware utility called Pkunzip or Winzip. This can be found easily on most online services (or at www.pkware.com). You then use Pkunzip or Winzip to extract the files from the archive. The extracted files should then be copied to the CIV2 directory on your hard drive. When you are asked if you want to replace existing, say "yes to all." If the file ends in .EXE (CIV2P111.EXE), copy the file to the CIV2 directory and run it. It will automatically extract and ask you if you wish to replace existing. Again say "yes to all." Q: What are the system requirements for the game? A: The minimum requirements are a 33MHz 80486 compatible, Windows 3.1, 8MB RAM, Super VGA graphics, a double-speed CD-ROM drive, MSCDEX version 2.2 and a Microsoft-compatible mouse. With the minimum system requirements, though, you may not be able to get full performance out of the Video for Windows portions
