(re Appleworks fix) might be a fix for HotSyncManager also?Thank you.Bill Helpful (0) Reply options Link to this post by Peggy, Peggy Dec 20, 2005 9:04 PM in response to macbill Level 8 (38,966 points) Applications Dec 20, 2005 9:04 PM in response to macbill If it gives the same error, it's possible. I suggest following the same steps to look inside the application package & see if any names seem odd.Personally, I've never had the error, I wrote the tip on behalf of Charlene. However, native support has severe limitations that make it virtually impossible to port existing code of significant size. The size of native shared libraries is limited to 32-64K, depending on code structure. In addition, https://discussions.apple.com/thread/274540?start=0&tstart=0 global variables and many important C++ features, such as virtual functions and exceptions, can not be used. There are a couple of techniques to overcome these limitations, such as PRC-Tools glib support and CodeWarrior 9 "expanded mode". However, none of them succeeds in making a shared library as easy to develop as an application. Oracle's solution, PSLM, allows one to build a shared library as a regular Palm https://docs.oracle.com/cd/B14156_01/doc/B13788/html/nvpslm.htm application. It is possible to use multiple segments, C++ virtual tables and exceptions and global variables, even ones with constructors and destructors. PSLM doesn't require any support from the OS and only uses limited compiler support (a patch the the publicly available sources of the CW runtime library). It does require some extra code to be written, but the existing code of the application and an existing static library does not need to be modified. 8.2 Trying out PSLM There is a sample using the framework in &fmv657;\Mobile\Sdk. After you do "Build All" on the project file, there will be two PRC files in that directory - SampleLibrary.prc and SampleApp.prc. Install Oracle Database Lite Runtime using olSetup. If you touch the "PSLM Sample" icon on the Palm now, it will just print a couple of message boxes and exit. What happens inside is considerably more interesting. SampleLibrary.prc is a PSLM shared library that has global variables and even makes use of another shared library, the ANSI C library that comes with Oracle Database Lite. Look at Sample.cpp for the implementation of the shared library and AppStart of Starter.cpp to see how it is called. 8.3 Writing a PSLM Library A PSLM library i

2004. Thread Status: Not open for further replies. ghast23 Newbie Messages: 3 Likes Received: 0 Trophy Points: 1 I recently installed Palm Desktop v4.2.1 on my OS 10.2.8 G5 at work. However, the installer says that it didn't finish and http://forum.brighthand.com/threads/application-launch-failure-shared-library-error.72191/ gives a 'cacel - reinstall' box. None of the apps that it installed can run, and it gives this error: Application Launch Failure The application "whatever app" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "&<>" https://books.google.com/books?id=EShMRG9GKRkC&pg=PA441&lpg=PA441&dq=shared+library+error+palm&source=bl&ots=gYVPQJc6aU&sig=O0-Ffb9pNN3ZP5qzdXh0aJiHzP8&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwi2paDvn-fPAhXq7IMKHX3kDc4Q6AEIVTAI Any ideas? This is from thinking that shared library error there might be a conflict with permissions or something like that. I don't feel like trying it though, since it would take a couple hours to get back up to where I am with the user profile I have now... Right now I'm just doing my sync at home, where my iBook had no trouble with the installation. Probably more secure there anyway. ghast23, May 21, 2004 #4 Esse Newbie Messages: 3 Likes Received: 0 Trophy Points: 1 I have the same error. The company's strength is the Palm OS, and developers loyal to this powerful and versatile operating system have created more than 10,000 applications for it. Devices from Handspring, Sony, Symbol, HandEra, Kyocera, and Samsung now use Palm OS, and the number of registered Palm Developers has jumped to 130,000. If you know C or C++, and want to join those who are satisfying the demand for wireless applications, then Palm OS Programming: The Developer's Guide, Second Edition is the book for you. With expanded coverage of the Palm OS--up to and including the latest version, 4.0--this new edition shows intermediate to experienced C programmers how to build a Palm application from the ground up. There is even useful information for beginners. Everything you need to write a Palm OS application is here, from user interface design, to coding a handheld application, to writing an associated desktop conduit. All the major development environments are discussed, including commercial products such as Metroworks CodeWarrior, Java-based environments such as Sun KVM and IBM VisualAge Micro Edition, and the Free Software Foundation's PRC-Tools or GCC. The focus, however, is C programming with CodeWarrior and PRC-Tools. New additions to the second edition include: A tutorial that takes a C programmer through the installation of necessary tools and the creation of a small handheld application. A new chapter on memory, with a comprehensive discussion of the Memory Manager APIs. Greatly expanded discussion
