The service account we are using for data refresh hasright permissions to the extrenal data source (a sharepoint site in this case). We are successfully using auto data refresh for other powerpivot workbooks. But in all the cases, our data sources are either SQL/Oracle databases or excel files on shared drives. Only difference between those workbooks and this one is I am combining multiple excel files as suggested here - http://www.contextures.com/PowerPivot-Identical-Excel-Files.html I am using query editor with Excel file connection so that I can combine data from 10 different excel files. What I have noticed (when I openpowerpivot windows on my machine)thatthe data source connection (for the original excel file)saves "blank" password and asks for it whenever I try to open the existing connection - see the screenshot below I think this is where the problem is.
